Step One: Downloading Process
Before starting the installation process, get all the needed to tools ready:
(1) Prepare a flash drive at least 4GB space or greater.
(2) Download the following: a Windows 8 disk image file and the Windows 7 USB . Get the 64-bit version if keeping the rig updated with new hardware is a priority.
Note: If the preferred Windows 8 set-up is just an upgrade to the current Windows being used and not as a separate HDD partition, refer to this link.
Step Two: Making a Bootable Windows 8 USB Installer
Install Windows 8 USB Tool by following the 3 easy steps provided below:
Choosing the ISO file. Click Browse button and locate the downloaded Windows 8 disk image file.
Do not forget to back up all personal files and date. There are 2 available means to back up files:
(1) Make a copy of the W7 files to a flash drive or;
(2) Burn all respective data on a DVD
Either method is fine.
Note: If the first option is preferred make sure the USB has a minimum memory capacity of at least be 4 GB).
Pop in the flash drive and then select the USB device as the preferred media type thru the drop down list. Afterwards, click Begin Copying button and wait.
Tip: If the external device has just been inserted and was not instantly detected by this app, try hitting Refresh.
Formatting and copying the complete W8 set up may take a few minutes.
“Bootable USB device created successfully” will be displayed on the screen indicating the back-up process has already concluded. The Bootable W8 USB installer is now ready.
Step Three: Creating a Dual Boot Menu
Restart the computer. Press DELETE to access BIOS set-up. Make sure to set the USB (external device) as 1st boot device priority under this setting. Select Ok to save all changes made.
Fill up each field on the Setup page and then click Next to continue installation.
Enter the W8 product key. Afterwards, click Next.
Go over the terms and check the I accept the license terms option if all specifications are found to be acceptable and then click Accept to move forward to the next step.
Since a dual boot for Windows 7 and 8 is desired, the Custom (Advanced) installation option must be selected.
Choose a partition. Make sure the chosen drive is clean. This process will over-write any data on the selected drive.
Windows will now continue with its installation. The computer will automatically restart for a few times during this process until this process is finished.
Re-access the BIOS set-up. This time choose the hard disk device as the first priority then save.
Congratulations! The process is now complete. Windows 8 has been successful installed and the computer has a dual boot menu.
